Lost a bit in the fun of the offensive fireworks was a defense that was the best in the ACC. It led the league in yards allowed, scoring defense, and third down stops.
It was seventh in the nation against the run, tenth in sacks, and nothing stops with a slew of strong transfers coming in to go with an already terrific base of veterans.

- The secondary was terrific. It gave up yards, but that's mostly because teams had to throw to keep up the pace.
Safety Isaiah Nwokobia is one of the nation's best, coming up with 100 tackles and three picks. He's the tough leader of the bunch. Ahmaad Moses was fourth on the team in tackles, and there are plenty of options for the nickel spot.
The corner combination of Jaelyn Davis-Robinson and Deuce Harmon combined for six picks and 11 broken up passes. It's all helped by ...
- The pass rush. It'll be terrific again with Cameron Robertson and Isaiah Smith on the outside - they combined for 10.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. They're getting help from the transfer portal - DJ Warner (Kansas) and Trey Wilson (Baylor) were great gets.
The new guys on the inside are even stronger, signing 300+ pounders Jeffrey M'Ba from Purdue and Terry Webb from Texas State. Damarjhe Lewis (Purdue) is a quick option.
- Leading tacklers Kobe Lewis and Ahmad Walker are gone from the linebacking corps, but the production will be there from Alexander Kilgore in the middle and Zakye Barker (East Carolina) on the outside. This isn't a thin area, but the depth is still young.
