Sooners are getting very close to landing one of their favorite recruits, but are in a battle with big-time rival for him
Bob Self/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of recruiting things they need to clean up still before this 2025 football season starts. Now, will most of them get cleaned up? No, most definitely not. But they can start checking some things off their list.

One of those things is getting a recruit that they have desperately wanted for a long time. And, not only getting him, but getting him over their biggest rival, the Texas Longhorns. That makes it even more of a win. The Sooners have a top-25 class in the country for 2026, with the Longhorns sitting at No. 14 in Rivals' rankings. So, yes, they need this win.

And they are getting so close.

Sooners in a battle to land Jake Kreul with Texas

Jake Kreul, a four-star edge rusher for the 2026 class, is one of the defenders in the class that the Oklahoma Sooners desperately needed and wanted. Kreul is considered one of the top high school football prospects in the country, and definitely one of the best in Florida. Getting him would help OUs 2026 class tremendously.

The Sooners only have two edge rushers in their 2026 class in terms of players who have committed, in Daniel Norman and Matthew Nelson. But, both of them are three-stars, so you can see why they would want to add Kreul to the mix.

At 6'3" and 235 pounds, Kreul combines speed, strength, and skill, earning praise as a technically advanced defender, which is pretty much the biggest reason why Brent Venables and the Sooners have wanted him so badly. In his 2024 junior season at IMG, Kreul had 39 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, and nine sacks in nine games against a tough schedule.

Kreul has over 50 college offers from programs like Oklahoma, Texas, Ole Miss, Ohio State, and Michigan. And now, Rivals is reporting that Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Texas are the three schools making the biggest pushes for Kreul, with Oklahoma and Texas in a battle for the four-star EDGE.
