South Carolina Suffers Significant LaNorris Sellers Setback

There may not be a team in college football with as many mixed reviews as the South Carolina Gamecocks.

They were a borderline College Football Playoff team a year ago, but following a large amount of attrition due to players leaving for the NFL, many think they will take a step back in 2025. On the other hand, some people thought they'd pick up where they left off.

On Saturday, the No. 11 Gamecocks hosted the Vanderbilt Commodores in what was really its first test of the season, but ended up losing star quarterback LaNorris Sellers in the second quarter after he took a helmet-to-helmet hit. They went on to lose 31-7, but the greater concern is the health of Sellers.

On Sunday, On3's Pete Nakos confirmed that Sellers suffered a concussion after the hit, and that this could be an injury that impacts South Carolina's next game.

"South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers suffered a concussion Saturday night against Vanderbilt that will continue to be monitored over the next 48 hours, sources tell @On3sports," wrote Nakos. "His status for Week 4 at Missouri is unclear."

Before going out with an injury, Sellers had completed 6-of-7 passes for 94 yards, and had also tossed an interception.

As for South Carolina's Week 3 opponent, the Tigers were ranked No. 25 in Week 2 and may continue to ascend. Led by Penn State transfer Beau Pribula, who has 791 yards passing and 10 total touchdowns, the Tigers have gotten off to a hot start with their best win coming over Kansas in Week 2's Border War.

Not having Sellers for this one could quickly derail South Carolina's season and playoff hopes, but there's still a few days for things to turn around.
