Spring football doesn’t usually carry the weight of a season, but for Deion Sanders, every rep feels like a statement right now. After a difficult 3–9 campaign in 2024, the pressure around Colorado hasn’t exactly faded. If anything, it’s sharpened. But the early signs coming out of Boulder suggest Sanders may have found a simple, effective way to steady things—by developing and showcasing NFL-caliber talent.
That’s where the latest wave of post-spring roster movement comes into focus. Speaking on his YouTube channel, David Neil highlighted several Colorado players beginning their professional journeys, starting with offensive lineman Xavier Hill, who landed with the New York Jets.
“Throughout this season, Xavier Hill was fantastic… the pass blocking is what he really excelled at, 86.8 overall PFF grade… Only gave up 12 pressures, three sacks,” Neil said. “I think he’ll serve to be a good depth guard for the New York Jets.”
Hill’s development matters beyond just one roster spot. Colorado’s offensive line struggled for consistency in recent years, so sending a lineman to the league signals progress in an area that directly impacted the Buffs’ on-field issues.
That perspective highlights what may be Sanders’ most reliable lever right now. While wins and losses remain the ultimate benchmark, consistently producing NFL-level talent can reshape how the program is viewed.
“Dive into it… Xavier Hill was fantastic… I’m really excited to see what he can do with the New York Jets,” Neil said. “If he’s able to get in the right system… I could see him being a playmaker in the defensive backfield.”
Colorado already commands attention with high-profile names like Travis Hunter, but sustainable success depends on depth. Players like Hill, Hodge, and Walker may not dominate headlines, yet their progression signals that the foundation is slowly improving.
For Sanders, that matters a great deal. Demonstrating player development strengthens recruiting credibility and helps counter the narrative built around last season’s record. If Colorado can keep sending players to the league from multiple position groups, it shows tangible growth behind the scenes.
