As the Longhorns worked their way back from a 17-point deficit, they took Mississippi State into overtime as the game was tied at 38 points. Unfortunately for Texas, on the first play of overtime, quarterback Arch Manning went down.
Manning took off, scrambling for 10 yards, before getting up, seemingly hurt after he got sandwiched between two defenders. One took him down with a hit to the waist area, while another came and hit him his his upper back and neck area as he was falling.
After the play, Manning walked off the field and went to the medical tent. In his place, backup quarterback Matthew Campbell took the field and led the Longhorns to the overtime victory, while Manning was still in the tent.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian was asked if he had an update on Manning’s injury.
“Not as of right now,” Sarkisian said. “I’ll have an update for you Monday.”
His injury is unknown, but everything suggests that he has a concussion. We’ll find out officially what it is on Monday, when Sarisian addresses the injury in his press conference, but as of right now, it’s not expected to be anything serious.
Texas would like to have him back for next week, though, when the Longhorns face No. 9 Vanderbilt. It will be a tough game, and the Longhorns will need to have a good week of practice if they want to see a win.
The game will kick off at 11 a.m. CT on ABC on Saturday.
