Tennessee accomplished something against Iowa that only happened on one other play in 2024
Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Vols accomplished something on Monday in their 35-0 win against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Citrus Bowl that only happened on one other play this season.

Coming into Monday's game, Iowa had allowed just one rush of more than 20 yards despite defending 410 run plays this season (against Western Michigan early in the year).

In the second half, however, Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson ripped off a 31-yard run.

Iowa was one of top defenses in the nation this season. They played against elite running backs like Michigan's Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards and Wisconsin's Braelon Allen. But none of those running backs were able to pull off an explosive run like Sampson.

For the day, Sampson had 20 rushes for 133 yards (6.7 yards per carry). True freshman running back Cam Seldon added 13 rushes for 55 yards.

True freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who rushed for three touchdowns in the game and was named the MVP of the Citrus Bowl, accounted for 27 rushing yards, including a 19-yard touchdown run.
