The Tennessee Vols went into halftime of their matchup against East Tennessee State with a 48-7 lead.
But you would have never know that after listening to Vols head coach Josh Heupel's halftime interview with ESPN.
Heupel made it clear before going into the locker room that he wasn't pleased with his team, despite putting up 427 total yards of offense in the first half.
"I'm going to be honest, I thought we were really sloppy at times," said Heupel. "There's a lot that we need to clean up. We need to play better. That's in some of our targets, our perimeter screen game, our execution in the pass game. There's a lot to improve on....Second half, we'll define what we're about. We need to come out and execute and play better than we did."
Tennessee put up a lot of points in the first half against ETSU, but they also left quite a few plays on the field. The Vols had several drops from wide receivers and tight ends. There was also a botched snap that led to points for East Tennessee State.
Heupel sounded a lot like Nick Saban or Kirby Smart during that halftime interview. But that's the approach you gotta have if you're going to chase championships.
