Tennessee Vols defender named one of the most underrated players in college football
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

A Tennessee Vols defender was named this week by 247Sports as one of the most underrated players in college football entering the 2024 season.

247Sports pointed out 10 of the most underrated players in college football and they included Vols defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott.

Norman-Lott, who spent the first three seasons of his career at Arizona State, transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2023 season. He played in 10 games last season for the Vols, totaling 26 tackles, six tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks (which was a career high for Norman-Lott).

From 247Sports: Omarr Norman-Lott did not get enough recognition as one of the top defensive linemen on an improved unit at Tennessee last season. The former Arizona State transfer finished with 26 total tackles, including six for loss with 5.5 sacks — third-most for the Volunteers. Norman-Lott made just two starts, but his impact was significant when on the field. He had his best season yet of his college career after three rather dismal years with the Sun Devils. Norman-Lott should push for a starting role on the Tennessee defensive line in 2024 and could be among the best in the SEC for that position group.

Norman-Lott actually hasn't been that overlooked this offseason. In fact, he was the only Tennessee player, other than James Pearce, who was included in CBS Sports' list of the 100 players in college football entering the 2024 season. Norman-Lott came in at No. 83 (Pearce was ranked No. 2).

Tennessee's defensive line is poised to be one of the top defensive line units in the sport in 2024. And Norman-Lott, who should be an early to mid-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, is a big part of why there's so much optimism surrounding the Vols' defensive line.
