Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel has a decision to make in July and it should be an easy one

The offseason is almost over for the Tennessee Vols and the rest of college football.

Games won't be played for another eight weeks, but the 2025 season essentially kicks off later this month when media days get underway.

SEC Media Days will take place July 14-17 in Atlanta, which means Vols head coach Josh Heupel has a decision to make. Heupel has to decide which three players to take with him to represent Tennessee in Atlanta.

Last season, Heupel's decision was easy. Center Cooper Mays and defensive lineman Omari Thomas, two players who had been with the program since 2020, were obvious choices.

Senior linebacker Keenan Pili, a BYU transfer who quickly proved to be a key team leader for the Volunteers, was another easy call for Heupel.

At first glance, it may seem like Heupel's decision isn't as easy this season. The Vols haven't settled on a starting quarterback yet, there is no "top dog" in the wide receiver or running back rooms, the offensive line doesn't have a seasoned veteran, and the best defensive player on the roster (cornerback Jermod McCoy) is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered earlier this offseason.

Heupel, however, is fortunate to once again have a couple of great choices to represent Tennessee at SEC Media Days.

Here are the three players that I think Heupel should take to SEC Media Days.

1. Bryson Eason -- Defensive Lineman -- Redshirt Senior

This is the most obvious choice for Heupel. There won't be many players like Eason in college football moving forward. The Memphis native has been at Tennessee since 2020. He's seemingly never entertained the idea of entering the NCAA transfer portal. Eason is a player that has first round talent and he's steadily improved each season. That's in large part due to his decision to stick around and play for defensive line coach Rodney Garner (Eason's position coach since 2021). Eason is always terrific when speaking to the media and he's genuine.

2. Arion Carter -- Linebacker -- Junior

Carter is one of Tennessee's most important defensive leaders. He's also one of the Vols' most talented players on the roster. If Tennessee is going to take another step forward on defense in 2025, it'll be because Carter takes his game to another level. Carter is another player that's great with the media.

3. Miles Kitselman -- Tight End -- Senior

Kitselman, who started his career at Alabama, is entering his second (and final) season at Tennessee. He's already been trusted by Heupel to speak to the media after the spring game earlier this season -- which is notable because it was the first time any players spoke to reporters after quarterback Nico Iamaleava's surprise departure from the program (Arion Carter also spoke to reporters after the spring game). Kitselman's experience with the Iamaleava situation combined with his status as a transfer addition makes him an easy choice for SEC Media Days.
