The best college football offenses of 2016

Heisman hopeful Lamar Jackson has helped lead Louisville to 50 points per game. The Cardinals have scored at least 50 points five times this season.

Texas Tech averages 603 yards per game, 500.6 of which come through the air. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes III is having a record-breaking season. The team averages 47.4 points per game.

Jim Harbaugh's offense has rounded into form this season, averaging 46.6 points per game. The team has scored at least 40 points in six games, including a 78-0 win at Rutgers.

The Huskies remain undefeated with the help of 46.1 points per game. Quarterback Jake Browning and running back Myles Gaskin are each having huge seasons.

The Sooners suffered two early-season losses but still have a chance to win the Big 12. They've averaged 45.4 points per game, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The Broncos are having one of the best seasons in their program's history, averaging 44.4 points per game and starting the year 8-0. Quarterback Zach Terrell has completed more than 72 percent of his passes with a 20/1 TD/INT ratio.

The Bulldogs annually produce one of the top offenses in the country and are averaging 44 points per game this season. Quarterback Ryan Higgins has 26/3 TD/INT.

The top team in the country is averaging 43.9 points per game and its elite defense has certainly been helpful. The team has scored at least 48 points five times this season.

Coming off a 52-45 win vs. Navy, the Bulls are averaging 43.4 points per game. Quinton Flowers and Marlon Mack are both averaging more than seven yards per carry.

Urban Meyer's offenses routinely rank among the best in college football, and this year the Buckeyes rank 10th with 42.6 points per game. J.T. Barrett has 17/4 TD/INT, while running back Mike Weber is averaging 6.0 yards per carry.

Even after head coach Art Briles was ousted in the offseason, the Bears are tearing it up on offense. They average 42.3 points per game, led by quarterback Seth Russell's 18/5 TD/INT.

Toledo is competing in the MAC and has averaged 39.4 points per game this season. Quarterback Logan Woodside has 31/5 TD/INT.

New Mexico averages 38.5 points per game built on the running game. Tyrone Owens has 821 rushing yards on only 100 carries, while Teriyon Gipson averages 10.7 yards per carry.

Led by quarterback Greg Ward Jr., Houston is averaging 38.4 points per game. Ward has 14 passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns.

The Aggies score 38.4 points per game, as running back Trayveon Williams is averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Quarterback Trevor Knight has also thrown for 13 touchdowns and rushed for nine more.

Inspirational running back James Conner has rushed for 672 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Panthers this season. They're currently averaging just over 38 points per game.

The competitive Trojans average 37.6 points per game, with running back Jordan Chunn rushing for 816 yards. Quarterback Brandon Silvers has also thrown 15 touchdowns.

Even after the loss of quarterback Paxton Lynch at the end of last season, the Memphis offense has been great. The Tigers are averaging 37.4 points per game as quarterback Riley Ferguson has thrown 17 touchdowns.
