This Big 12 Quarterback’s Heisman Odds Just Took a Big Jump

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt has seen his Heisman Trophy odds shift dramatically this week at BetMGM, moving from +4000 to +2000 as bettors have started putting significant money on the Sun Devils’ signal-caller.

The change makes Leavitt one of the fastest risers in the early Heisman race and signals growing national attention on his potential in 2025.

Leavitt, entering his second year as ASU’s starter, showed flashes of elite play last season, combining poise in the pocket with mobility that kept defenses guessing. He threw for more than 3,000 yards and accounted for 28 total touchdowns in 2024, helping the Sun Devils finish as one of the Big 12’s most improved teams.

With Arizona State opening the season ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll and carrying high expectations, Leavitt’s profile has only grown.

The odds shift also reflects broader optimism about Arizona State’s offense, which returns key playmakers and is expected to operate at a faster tempo in its second season under head coach Kenny Dillingham. A strong start against early-season opponents could keep Leavitt in the conversation, especially if ASU remains a Big 12 contender deep into November.

While +2000 still leaves Leavitt behind preseason Heisman favorites like Texas quarterback Arch Manning and Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, the movement suggests that bettors see value in backing him now before the number potentially shortens further.

If Leavitt continues to climb the odds board, Arizona State could find itself in the national spotlight more often, with Heisman buzz adding to the stakes of each game. For now, he’s gone from a dark horse to a legitimate contender in just a matter of days.
