'This thing is a lot more serious than I thought it was' - Insider drops new details of the Boo Carter saga at Tennessee

Rumors have been circulating over the past week about Tennessee Vols sophomore defensive back Boo Carter and his status with the program.

The rumors center around how "plugged in" Carter has (or hasn't) been with the football program over the summer.

Longtime Vols insider/talk show host Tony Basilio said earlier this week that he doesn't think it's a "slam dunk" that Carter will play for Tennessee in 2025.

Basilio followed up by noting that the Vols' leadership council is unhappy with Carter

On Wednesday, Basilio added another layer to the story by revealing that Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel (per one of Basilio's sources) has been calling around the state looking for Carter this week.

"This thing is a lot more serious than I thought it was," said Basilio. "From this perspective -- I had a source last night tell me that Heupel reached out to him, saying, 'Have you seen Boo Carter?' That's not a good sign. When your head coach has lost track of somebody, and they're supposed to be reporting (to fall camp), that's probably not a good sign."

Basilio, by the way, stressed that the situation with Carter has "nothing to do with money".

"It has nothing to do with money," said Basilio. "My understanding is there's a lot of things swirling around with him and his camp. It has nothing to do with money, is my understanding."

We'll see how this situation plays out. Carter is a dynamic player that is incredibly important to the Vols' success in 2025 (in all three phases). But if Basilio's source is accurate, then it's easy to see how Carter's spot on Tennessee's roster could be in serious jeopardy.

Fall camp is set to begin for Tennessee on July 30.
