Ty Simpson is hearing a lot of what Nick Saban refers to as rat poison at the moment.
Many talking heads around college football are referring to the Alabama quarterback as one of the best quarterbacks in college football, and he is now considered a Heisman favorite. Simpson knows his play as of late has warranted this type of praise, but he is choosing not to focus on the outside talk.
“I’m just really trying to win, to be honest with you,” Simpson said. “As much as I wanted to forget the first game, like it’s gone, but it’s never forgotten. We talk about all the time, like having a chip on our shoulder, like all that is external to me. I just want to go 1-0 and win, whatever it takes to win and get my guys to celebrate in the locker room for that three or five minutes is all that matters to me.”
The Crimson Tide’s offensive lineman, Kadyn Proctor feels Simpson is playing at a ‘Heisman level’ right now. The signal caller feels this is a result of the way Proctor and the players around him played.
“Thanks to him,” Simpson told reporters when asked what does it mean to hear Proctor say that. “Thanks to the guys up front, thanks to the wide outs, thanks to the running backs. It’s honestly, it’s kind of absurd, the talk around it because I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. if it wasn’t for the defense getting me in good positions, turnovers and whatnot. That’s all external to me. I just want to do my job and make sure that I celebrate in the locker room with my guys because I know that I wouldn’t be here without them.”
Simpson and his unselfish approach will be leaned on throughout the season for the Crimson Tide.
