UCF Football Announces Poaching From Big 12 Contender

Scott Frost returned to Orlando Executive Airport on Dec. 8, 2024, to a very different UCF Knights team since the last time he left the jetway to take the Nebraska Cornhuskers job in Dec. 2017.

Not only was his team coming off a 4-8 season, but in this new NIL era of college football, rosters can flip on a dime with new staff at the helm. One of Frost’s first responsibilities was maintaining the already committed 2025 recruiting class, and filling immediate holes on his roster.

One of those holes was replacing veteran long snapper Gage King. King was a sixth-year senior at UCF having transferred from the Arizona State Sun Devils.

UCF revealed Frost has poached Dalton Riggs, a long snapper from the BYU Cougars who are coming off an 11-2 season. Riggs played 12 games last season and has a reputation for being very reliable.

Riggs was rated a four-star prospect out of Eagle, Idaho in 2019. He will have two years of eligibility.

Last season, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake had his squad ranked No. 6 in the nation, looking to be serious Big 12 title contenders, until back-to-back week slip-ups against the feisty Kansas Jayhawks in Provo, and the eventual Big 12 champion Arizona State Sun Devils.

The Cougars closed the season off strong with a drubbing of the Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl, 36-14.

Although some would like to forget, UCF fans should be familiar with Riggs as he was involved in a successful fake field goal when the Cougars visited Orlando last season.

Look for more fluid roster movement from Frost and his staff as the spring transfer portal opens on April 16.
