UCLA Fires Head Coach After Horrible Start

After week 3, the UCLA Bruins are no doubt disappointed after their horrible beginning to the season. Many even doubt if the Bruins can win more than a game this season, especially after some terrible losses. It’s not all doom and gloom for the Bruins however as big changes are now being made.

UCLA Fires Head Coach Deshaun Foster

Deshaun Foster Fired After 0-3 Start

Deshaun Foster is no longer the head coach of the UCLA Bruins after a disgusting 0-3 start to the season. With Nico Iamaleava as the starting QB, expectations weren’t exactly low for the Bruins. Not to mention, UCLA was 5-7 last season and didn’t look horrible at the end of the season. However, the Bruins began the year by allowing the Utah Utes to outscore them 43-10 in an embarrassing loss.

Things only got worse for Foster and company, though, with a loss to the UNLV Rebels 30-23 and then a blowout loss against the New Mexico Lobos 35-10. The start definitely wasn’t what people expected out of UCLA, especially with a potentially good offense with supposed phenom Iamaleava. Foster’s 2024 season and the beginning of the 2025 season just didn’t cut it for the UCLA Bruins, who expect more. The losses to the Lobos and Rebels just make things look much worse for the Bruins.

UCLA May Be the Worst Team In the BIG Ten This Season

After the firing, it is apparent that UCLA may be the worst team in the BIG Ten. This isn’t good for UCLA, as they know it can be hard to come back from. There have been atrocious beginnings to seasons before and then a bowl game appearance. However, for UCLA, this feels anything but realistic. The defense has been horrifying, allowing 43, 30, and 35 points against teams that not many expected to be good offenses this season.

The offense, meanwhile, looks bad too, as it scored just 10, 23, and 10 points to begin the season. Overall, both the offense and the defense stink horribly and don’t look poised to do anything in the BIG Ten this season. The only game the Bruins look like they can win based on the beginning of the season is against the Northwestern Wildcats, who got runover by the Tulane Green Wave 23-3 and have also lost to the Oregon Ducks 34-14. Really, for UCLA things have gone from bad to worse over the last season even with some key transfers.

More Firings Underway In CFB?

In addition to the firing of Foster, Virginia Tech has also fired Brent Pry after his own torrid 0-3 start. The hot seat in CFB is also getting full with teams like the Florida Gators and Wisconsin Badgers beginning the season pretty badly. Overall, Foster definitely won’t be the only guy to go this season and isn’t even the only one to be fired after Week 3. This aspect of college football always adds some intrigue. Perhaps UCLA can hire another really good coach? These type of questions add some extra intrigue to the offseason and sometimes to the season because of interim head coaches.

Week 3 of college football definitely has been interesting to see as many colleges slip. UCLA has been no exception with embarrassing losses to Mountain West teams to begin the season. Not to mention the Bruins have lost many of the games in blowout fashion at home, adding some more petrol to the situation. UCLA hasn’t been the only college to let go of their coach either as Virginia Tech has followed suit. UCLA by any and all means doesn’t expect a better or bowl season this year after such a bad start. But, one thing is definitely for sure, the Bruins need better. A lot better.
