Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava won't be wearing the same No. 8 for the UCLA Bruins that he donned on Rocky Top.
UCLA released their updated roster on Thursday and it has Iamaleava listed with the No. 9.
Iamaleava isn't able to wear No. 8 at UCLA because it's retired in honor of former Bruins quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman.
The former Tennessee quarterback, who transferred to UCLA in April, is expected to start under center for the Bruins this fall.
Iamaleava is coming off a solid redshirt freshman season at Tennessee in which he passed for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 358 yards and three touchdowns.
Additionally, the California native helped guide Tennessee to its first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Former Appalachian State quarterback Joey Aguilar was expected to start for UCLA in 2025, but the arrival of Iamaleava scuttled those plans.
Aguilar transferred to Tennessee as a result of Iamaleava's transfer to UCLA, which means the Bruins and the Vols essentially executed the first ever college football quarterback trade.
