With defensive end Melkart Abou Jaoude missing action on Saturday against the ETSU Buccaneers, Penn State Nittany Lions transfer Jaylen Harvey stole the show, emerging as Abou Jaoude’s new dynamic partner when he makes his return.

Harvey’s Presence Could Be Lethal This Season

Over the summer, I watched past tape on Harvey, who flashed as a rotational pass rusher for Penn State last season. While the season didn’t go to plan, Harvey remained a constant presence, flashing as an edge defender and pure pass rusher with speed and a quick first step off the line of scrimmage that granted him easy wins off the edge and success as a stunt/looper defender in line games.

While he didn’t flash much against TCU in Dublin, Harvey had a breakout performance against ETSU. He led the team in pressures (4) and sacks (2), showcasing unbelievable explosiveness, flexibility to bend the corner and attack the quarterback, and an impressive speed-to-power rush that created chaos for Buccaneers' quarterback, Mason Mims.

This was the game that Harvey needed to prove he could be a reliable edge rusher opposite Abou Jaoude. North Carolina will need both of them against the Clemson Tigers next weekend in Death Valley.

Abou Jaoude, Harvey Make an Epic Rush Duo

The Tar Heels defense has been impressive in the team’s 2-0 start, and their biggest test of the season comes against Clemson, which has struggled on offense despite high-end playmakers at wide receiver. The exciting part for Belichick’s defense is the struggles of the Tiger's offensive line and the rotation at quarterback between freshman Tait Reynolds and veteran Christopher Vizzina, the former expected to start on Saturday.

This is a dream come true for Abou Jaoude and Harvey, who play key roles in the Tar Heels' success at Clemson. Their different yet impactful skill sets give the Tigers' opposing tackles plenty to handle, especially with separate combinations of power, speed, athleticism, and size.
