Earlier this summer, Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia added some fuel to the rivalry with the Tennessee Vols thanks to some comments he made during an appearance on Bussin with the Boys.
"Vanderbilt is gonna run Tennessee after this year," said Pavia. "This is gonna be the new staple of college football. It's going to happen here at Vanderbilt."
On Tuesday, at SEC Media Days in Atlanta, Vols senior tight end Miles Kitselman was asked about Pavia's comments. And he offered a quick and smart response.
"What's your response to Diego Pavia saying he's going to run the state of Tennessee, especially after y'all's emphatic victory last season," said a reporter to Kitselman.
Kitselman, clearly recognizing that he was being baited into a potential soundbite, gave a response that almost certainly made Vols head coach Josh Heupel proud.
"I don't really have any input on that," said Kitselman.
Vols junior linebacker Arion Carter was also asked about Pavia's comments on Tuesday. And he also delivered a perfect answer.
"We don't really take too much account for offseason comments," said Carter. "We're just ready to be prepared for when the moment comes and be out there and go play football."
Perfect answers from both players. There's absolutely no reason to give opponents extra motivation via trash talk.
