The UConn Huskies have a football team. That can be easy to forget at times, especially now that the Huskies are among the ranks of the FBS Independents and no longer in the Big East or AAC.
What won't be easy to forget is the below "play" by UConn quarterback Zion Turner in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
Marshall ended up winning the game, 28-14, in a matchup that could end up being the poster child for those that argue 41 games is roughly 20 bowl games too many to end the college football season.
Of course, credit to both UConn and Marshall for getting bowl eligible (it was actually the first time UConn played in a bowl game since 2015), but plays like this are a stark reminder of the massive talent discrepancies between 6-6 UConn and even 9-4 LSU, for example:

So, let's track this play. First, there's the low snap that looked more like a bowling ball than a football play. Then, UConn quarterback Zion Turner inexplicably decided to blind-faith throw that ball up in the air like a wounded duck. All for what? What would have been a one-yard gain?
Sure, situationally as a quarterback you don't want to have to eat that play and set yourself up with a third-and-long, but the result here for UConn was plain dumb luck. They ended up facing a third-and-10 when in reality, that dead duck is getting housed for a pick-six in nine of ten other hypothetical scenarios.
This play, exactly, is why too many is too much for college football bowl season. Fewer games are just fine if that means the quality of the games that are played is above what you can expect at your local high school game.
