Western Michigan Transfer Quarterback Treyson Bourguet Commits to BYU
USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday, Western Michigan quarterback transfer Treyson Bourguet committed to BYU. Bourguet, who has three years of eligibility remaining, started eight games for Western Michigan over the last two seasons. Bourguet will begin classes at BYU on Monday and will be available to participate in Spring camp.

As a true freshman in 2022, Bourguet started four games in the back half of the season. In four starts, he threw for 601 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also ran for 154 yards and a score. Since he only played in four games, Bourguet preserved his redshirt.

As a redshirt freshman in 2023, Bourguet started four games and appeared in two more games. He threw for 713 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. His best game came against Ball State where he threw for 328 yards, 3 touchdowns an no interceptions in a 42-24 win.

Bourguet is the second quarterback transfer to commit to BYU this week. Former USF and Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon committed to the Cougars on Thursday. He will join what has suddenly become a very deep quarterback room that includes Jake Retzalff, Ryder Burton, Noah Lugo, Gerry Bohanon, and Cade Fennegan among others.

Treyson Bourguet's Path to Provo

Treyson Bourguet was recruited by BYU out of high school. Just before his senior year, he spent two weeks on the road visiting college football programs across the country. His last stop was a visit to BYU. That visit made a lasting impression on him. "Just the hospitality, the staff, the environment, everything about Provo itself really made me intrigued about coming back."

Bourguet made his way to Provo a few weeks later for the Arizona State game. His brother is a quarterback for Arizona State. BYU went on to win 27-17 and Bourguet recalls the play made by Tyler Allgeier to force a fumble on a Jaren Hall interception. "It was definitely just an amazing experience," he said.

After two years at Western Michigan, Treyson entered the transfer portal and he got back in touch with Aaron Roderick. "I kept in touch with Coach Roderick throughout my whole recruiting process. And obviously, once the transfer openep things back up, he reached back out and it was like we never missed a beat."

Bourguet grew up in Tuscon, Arizona and he was very familiar with BYU's brand. "Going to U of A games, those times when BYU would come out there or whether it was on TV, I would be watching BYU. Or whether I was walking around Arizona or even at school, I'd see some friends with a BYU hat or shirt on. Just the national logo, the national brand that BYU has, especially on this side of the country is just so, so respected. I grew up knowing about BYU and how good of a school it is and how amazing the people are that go to BYU. It's just something that you grew up knowing. Just like two plus two is four, you know that BYU is a great school."

Academics are really important to Bourguet. He hasn't decided on his major, but he is down to a few options like business management and business marketing.
