'Where does this stuff come from?' – Georgia's top five star target clears up his recruitment ahead of visit with Kirby Smart

Kirby Smart already has his Georgia Bulldogs on pace to finish with yet another elite recruiting class in 2026 and he's clearly not even close to done yet. Georgia is set to host a number of elite recruits this weekend, but none more notable than five star running back Savion Hiter.

While some industry experts continue to try and act like they know where Savion Hiter is leaning, he shut all that speculation down with a hilarious quote this week ahead of his visit to Georgia. Does it mean he's leaning Georgia? Not necessarily, but those who were counting the Bulldogs out can certainly stay quiet for a bit.

Savion Hiter, Five Star RB Recruit Target for Georgia

For those who may not know how special Savion Hiter is, he's been a consensus five star projection at running back since before his sophomore season even began. Hiter flashed impressive track speed dating back to his early high school days. He racked up nearly 2000 yards from scrimmage as a consensus All-American running back last fall. Then followed that up by receiving the rare invitation to the Under Armour All-American Game while still just a junior (an honor typically reserved for seniors).

Hiter has been one of the most highly coveted recruiting targets in the nation for multiple years now, but where he's truly leaning with his college decision has been a bit of enigma. Yes, he's clearly been investing most of his time with Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennessee in terms of visits. And yes, he has official visits with all of them early this summer. However, this late in the process there's usually more consensus on where a top talent like Hiter might be going. Not so with Hiter.

Still, some recruiting experts like to overconfidently project where players are going sometimes, as was the case with Hiter this week. Hiter apparently didn't appreciate it when Steve Wiltfong and Josh Newberg of On3 Sports acted rather confident that Michigan and Tennessee were atop his interests, and he hilariously called them both out posting on X saying, "Where does this stuff come from when I've done 0 interviews?"

Hiter's post logged well over a half million impressions on X as the entire recruiting community collectively laughed at the seemingly baseless projection from two usually quite connected experts.

This post from Hiter obviously doesn't exclude Michigan or Tennessee from his finalists, but the timing is rather funny given that Hiter is visiting with the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend. In fact, Hiter's very next post on social media was all about his official visit with Kirby Smart and his staff (as you can see below).

Hiter did just take an official visit with Ohio State. Michigan and Tennessee both set to host Hiter in June as well. However, it's quite clear that Hiter wanted everyone to know that his recruitment is far from over–and perhaps most importantly that it still included Georgia. Kirby Smart should have quite the recruiting pitch to make for Hiter this weekend too.

Since becoming the Georgia head coach, Kirby Smart has gotten seven of his running backs drafted–many of them in the early rounds. The Bulldogs will have a huge need and opportunity to fill at running back next season so Hiter should see the field early. Cash Jones and transfer Josh McCray will be gone. Roderick Robinson can't stay healthy. Nate Frazier should still be the team's feature running back, but he's talented enough to be off to the NFL following Hiter's true freshman year.

Georgia fans should feel pretty good about their chances to land Savion Hiter. And if Hiter does start to lean towards Georgia this weekend that could be huge for the 2026 recruiting class overall seeing as there are so many important recruiting in Athens this weekend that he could have a major influence on as well:

Brayden Fogle – Four Star TE
Caden Harris – Four Star CB
Chace Calicut – Four Star DB
Chauncy Kennon – Four Star CB
Dre Quinn – Four Star EDGE
Ekene Ogboko – Four Star OL
Fletcher Turk – Three Star OL
Kendall Guervil - Four Star DL
PJ Dean – Four Star DL
Tamarion Watkins – Four Star LB
Tyren Wortham – Four Star WR
Vodney Cleveland – Four Star DL
Zachary Lewis – Three Star OL

This could shape up to be a massive recruiting weekend headed up by Savion Hiter. Let's hope Kirby Smart can just close the deal.
