Ty Simpson will look to continue his string of good performances against the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday in Athens.
Simpson played like one of the best quarterbacks in college football for two weeks in the Crimson Tide’s wins over ULM and Wisconsin. Those performances have appeared to give the quarterback a confidence boost.
Kalen DeBore feels his quarterback is getting more comfortable.
“I think he’s really slowed the game down,” DeBoer said during the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “He stayed disciplined. He’s staying more disciplined with just where his reads are taking him and not being in a hurry, and then keeping his eyes downfield and trusting the offensive line, even, when he’s got to hang in there. I thought the third down on the second drive, him just ripping that corner to Ryan(Williams) was a big-time throw and you know that you love to see that. H’s made those plays more now the last couple of weeks and so it’s just him getting more comfortable, him understanding when he’s got to make those big throws, how to keep drives alive and staying ahead of the chains. He’s just doing a better job with all of those things here these last two weeks, but yeah I think he’s becoming more comfortable, more confident and of course, the team is becoming more confident in him too.”
Alabama’s starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor has noticed Simpson step up on and off the field through his three starts.
“Ty’s been doing everything on and off the field as a leader, too,” offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor said. “And it’s obviously shown up on the field. He’s doing his thing. I need to do some stuff better, obviously, to not put him in that position, but he’s a ball player. Point blank period.”
Isaiah Horton is continuing to build upon his chemistry with Simpson. The two are beginning to connect more and more in games. The wide receiver loves what the mindset Simpson is playing with at the moment.
“He had an incredible two games, but that doesn’t faze him,” Horton said. “He’s eager to do more. He wants to do better. I love that.”
Simpson has a golden opportunity in front of him, with him set to lead the Tide against the Bulldogs.
