The Wisconsin Badgers have gone through the wringer trying to give a defensive back the final year of eligibility the staff feels he deserves.
Nyzier Fourqurean, a former Division-II corner back for Grand Valley State, has spent the last two seasons with the Badgers and steadily progressed during his tenure. Fourqurean exhausted his eligibility this past season as Division-II seasons are still counted against the Division-I clock. The defensive back temporarily regained a final year of eligibility through legal action, but the action was reversed which now places Fourqurean in a difficult limbo between playing in a reduced season or ending his collegiate career on a sour note.
The Badgers staff has been by the side of Fourqurean since the start, filing another legal motion on behalf of the defensive back in an effort to give him another final season of play. Currently, Wisconsin is still allowing Fourqurean to practice and the defensive back has been a standout with the defensive starters throughout camp.
Wisconsin Badgers Defensive Back Nyzier Fourqurean Continues to be Notable Presence at Practice Despite Eligibility Issues
If the case were up to the Wisconsin Badgers, Fourqurean would already be playing and there would not even be a competition for his spot in the defense. Currently, Fourqurean is still taking a large chunk of snaps with the starting defense and Wisconsin will continue to prepare the defensive back as if he is going to be playing during the upcoming season.
On defense, Fourqurean has impressed the staff and arguably looked the sharpest he has to date with the Badgers, which is unfortunate considering the situation. When Fourqurean is off of the field, a combination of Omilio Agard, D’Yoni Hill, and Cairo Skanes have taken over the snaps. Agard and Hill are expected to be the two who could fill the role of Fourqurean should the defensive back learn he cannot return to play.
Currently, the exact player who will be covering for the defensive back until a final decision is made is unclear, but likely will be Agard or Hill.
For the Wisconsin Badgers, Fourqurean has been an excellent player to have around the program despite his odd and straining situation that has hit emotional highs and lows for the staff. The defensive back comes into every practice with a great attitude and while putting together solid performances himself, Fourqurean also takes time to assist some of the younger players.
The Badgers may not have Fourqurean on the field at all this season, but having the talented defender around the program and active in practice has given the team a positive boost. The defensive back will not hear about his potential eligibility until the end of September at the earliest. Even if Fourqurean returns directly after a positive result in court, the defensive back will miss games against Alabama, Maryland, and possibly Michigan.
