Wisconsin Football Lands First Transfer Portal Commitment
USA TODAY Sports

Wisconsin football has made its first addition via the transfer portal, as former Louisville edge rusher Mason Reiger announced his commitment to UW.

Reiger chose Wisconsin after fielding interest from Indiana, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest, among others. He will have one year of eligibility remaining with the Badgers.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound edge rusher missed the entire 2024 season due to complications stemming from a knee injury, but when healthy, he has proven to be a reliable and disruptive player. In 2023, Reiger recorded 22 tackles, six TFLs, five sacks, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

The Badgers need as much help as they can get as they look to retool the defense heading into 2025. UW struggled to generate pressure and get into the backfield at a consistent clip, and with Leon Lowery Jr entering the portal, that need only became more apparent. Reiger has shown a knack for rushing the quarterback and playing very physically, which will be big for the Badgers as they look to navigate a tough 2025 schedule.

Reiger is the first transfer addition for Luke Fickell and company, who have been hitting the portal hard and scheduling visits with a handful of prospects. With plenty of needs to fill out, expect the Badgers to remain active in the transfer portal.
