Ayabonga Khaka was the star of the show, taking 3 wickets for just 16 runs, while Laura Wolvaardt played a steady innings, scoring a half-century to help South Africa secure a six-wicket victory over India in the first T20I in Durban. This win gives the hosts a 1-0 lead in the series.

India batted first and started strong with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, who quickly put together 46 runs. However, their momentum took a hit when both openers were dismissed within six balls towards the end of the Powerplay.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur then steadied the ship with a solid 71-run partnership for the third wicket. Rodrigues scored 36 before getting out in the 16th over, while Harmanpreet remained not out with 47 runs off 33 balls, including five fours and a six.

South Africa made crucial breakthroughs towards the end, taking four wickets for just 33 runs in the last five overs, which limited India to 157 for 7. Khaka's impressive bowling earned her the Player of the Match title, with Tumi Sekhukhune also contributing well with figures of 2 for 27.

In response, South Africa's innings got off to a decent start, even with the early loss of Sune Luus to Shreyanka Patil. Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits quickly added 48 runs for the second wicket, keeping the chase on track until Brits was stumped off Shree Charani unexpectedly. Wolvaardt then formed a vital 52-run partnership with Dercksen, pushing the score past 100 and maintaining a steady asking rate.

India made a comeback by taking two quick wickets, dismissing Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch in consecutive overs, leaving South Africa at 129 for 4. However, Dercksen kept her cool under pressure and guided the team to victory, with Tryon finishing things off with a six, ensuring a clinical win for South Africa.
