Kolkata Knight Riders have been the worst-performing franchise in the Indian Premier League 2026. They are winless in six matches, with their only point coming courtesy of a rain wash out game against the Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens. Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has made a bold statement, saying Brendon McCullum will return to the three-time champions as coach before the next season. Pietersen took to X to make a big remark, leading to speculation about a possible change in KKR's support staff.

Kolkata's latest defeat came against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane and head coach Abhishek Nayar haven't been able to inspire their teammates, and the two are under pressure. The KKR loyal fans are urging the owners to sack the two.

After KKR's below-par display, Pietersen made a striking claim. "Baz McCullum will be the coach of KKR next season. Bookmark this tweet."

The supporters and experts are discussing whether the franchise will approach the former New Zealand skipper to revive the Kolkata-based team. He was a part of the team as a player and scored 158 runs in the first match of the IPL in 2008. He then brought an aggressive style to the Knights as the head of the coaching staff. Although he was not able to achieve success, he was lauded for changing the mindset of the players.

With the Kolkata Knight Riders positioned at the bottom of the standings, questions are being asked whether the decision-makers will pull the plug or will wait until the conclusion of the season. McCullum's name is hogging the limelight because of Pietersen's predictions. McCullum is associated with the England national team, but anything could happen before the Indian Premier League 2027.
