Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen engaged in lengthy and intense conversations with vice-captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma ahead of the fourth T20I against Australia at Carrara Oval. Both players were among the key talking points following India’s recent victory in Hobart, albeit for contrasting reasons.

Shubman Gill’s poor form continued with just 15 runs in the third T20I, piling pressure after replacing Sanju Samson as opener. Meanwhile, Jitesh Sharma marked his T20I comeback with a quickfire 22 off 13 balls, helping India chase 187 with nine balls to spare.

The contrasting performances have left the team management facing a tough selection dilemma, with the upcoming T20Is set to play a key role in shaping India’s plans ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. On the eve of the fourth T20I, head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel were seen having an extended discussion with Jitesh Sharma near the pitch.

The trio closely examined the surface before Gambhir and Jitesh walked back toward the boundary together. The coach appeared to be offering words of encouragement, occasionally patting Jitesh on the back, while the wicketkeeper responded with attentive nods.

Gautam Gambhir later engaged in another detailed conversation with Shubman Gill, who listened carefully throughout. The two spoke at length before rejoining the rest of the squad for the training session. You can watch the video here (via RevSportz):

The fourth T20I between India and Australia is set to take place on Thursday, November 6. The five-match series currently stands level at 1-1, with the opening game in Canberra being abandoned due to rain.

Shubman Gill Continues Poor Form In AUS vs IND T20Is

After a below-par showing in the preceding ODI series, where India lost 1-2, Shubman Gill’s batting woes continued in the T20Is as well. The opener began the series promisingly with an unbeaten 37 in the first T20I at Manuka Oval, which was eventually washed out due to rain.

However, his form dipped in the following matches. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he managed just five runs off ten balls in the second T20I, followed by another underwhelming performance of 15 runs in the third game, extending his lean run on the tour.
