The first-ever ILT20 player auction in Dubai on October 1, 2025, proved to be a day of surprises, hard decisions, and major purchases. Six teams struggled hard to balance their teams for the 2026 season, and the afternoon witnessed both happiness and sadness.
The largest piece of news was that of Ravichandran Ashwin. Even though he had the topmost base price of USD 120,000, the experienced spinner did not find a single bidder and remained unsold.
Meanwhile, West Indies opening batter Andre Fletcher made headlines as the most expensive player of the day. He found a buyer in MI Emirates for USD 260,000, maintaining his relationship with the team for a fourth season.
Top Buys and Surprises
England's Scott Currie was auctioned to Dubai Capitals for USD 250,000, becoming the second-highest buy of the auction. Gulf Giants splurged to get Liam Dawson at USD 170,000, while UAE players had a historic day.
Sharjah Warriorz utilized their Right-to-Match card to re-acquire Junaid Siddique for USD 170,000, and MI Emirates selected Muhammad Rohid for USD 140,000, being a milestone for UAE cricket.
Among other foreign stars, Desert Vipers signed Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman and Naseem Shah for USD 80,000 each. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders opted for Scotland's Brandon McMullen (USD 110,000), along with Unmukt Chand, Michael Pepper, and George Garton. Another record signing was Faisal Khan, the first Saudi Arabian player, to join Desert Vipers for USD 10,000.
