Skipper Litton Das had an injury scare ahead of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup T20 Super Four 2025 clash against India. The talismanic batter experienced back strain while batting in the nets at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Das complained of discomfort in the back upon attempting a square cut in the nets. He called off his training session immediately and was assessed by team’s physio Bayzid ul Islam.
“We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told the aforementioned publication on the eve of the India clash. The report further stated that Das was doing alright after the incident but his availability is going to be under the cloud.
If Das is ruled out of the all-important game, it is unclear who will take over the reins. When the squad was announced, no vice-captain was named.
Bangladesh registered a nervy four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the Super Fours clash at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 20. Chasing 169, Das helped Bangladesh get off to a decent start in the powerplay overs. He scored 23 from 16 before Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed him in the seventh over. When he departed, Bangladesh were 60/2 from 6.3 overs. Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy joined forces thereafter to put the Asian Tigers on the brink of glory.
Das is Bangladesh’s third-highest run-scorer against India in the shortest format. From 11 innings, he tallies 230 runs at an average of 20.90 and strike rate of 149.35. Having scored a half-century against the men in blue, Das needs 19 more runs to leave the now-retired Mahmudullah behind and become Bangladesh’s leading T20I run-scorer against their neighboring country.
