In what will be remembered as one of the most extraordinary matches in T20 history, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) chased down a monumental target of 265 to defeat the Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
The Match 35 encounter saw records tumble as PBKS reached 265/4 in just 18.5 overs, completing the highest successful run chase in the history of the Indian Premier League. This victory cements Punjab’s position at the top of the points table and keeps their unbeaten streak alive in the 2026 season.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bat first. What followed was a batting masterclass led by KL Rahul, who smashed a breathtaking 152 off just 67 balls*. Rahul’s innings, which included 16 boundaries and 9 towering sixes, set the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in the IPL.
He was brilliantly supported by Nitish Rana, who played a whirlwind knock of 91 off 44 balls. Together, the duo shared a massive 220-run partnership for the second wicket, propelling Delhi to a staggering total of 264/2. The Punjab Kings, faced with an almost impossible task, began their pursuit with fearless aggression.

Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya took the DC bowlers to the cleaners from the first over. Prabhsimran was particularly destructive, slamming 76 off 26 balls, while Arya contributed a rapid 43 off 17. Their opening stand of 126 in less than seven overs provided the necessary momentum.
Despite losing a few quick wickets to Kuldeep Yadav (2/46), PBKS remained on course. The finishing touches were provided by captain Shreyas Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 71 off 36 balls. Iyer showed great composure under immense pressure, hitting 7 sixes to bring the target within reach.
He was well-supported by Shashank Singh (19)*, who hit the winning runs with seven balls to spare. This historic win not only highlights Punjab’s incredible batting depth but also leaves Delhi searching for answers after failing to defend the highest total of the season.
