Team India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant entertained fans with a funny game of golf after being sidelined from the ongoing Test series against the West Indies, which began on Thursday, October 2, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although he found it tough to get going in the golf session due to repeated misses, Pant eventually managed to succeed and celebrated the moment in trademark style.

The dynamic left-hander is still recovering from a foot injury sustained during the England tour in July, which ruled him out of the squad for the West Indies series. The injury took place in the fourth Test at Manchester when Pant attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and ended up hurting his foot badly. On Thursday, Pant took to X to share a light-hearted video of his golf attempt, captioning it with:

“Ball went everywhere…except where it should.”

As per a recent ESPNcricinfo report, the BCCI’s medical team is still unsure about the exact timeline for Rishabh Pant’s return to batting and wicketkeeping drills. However, the 27-year-old is expected to be included in India’s squad for the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa, scheduled to begin on November 14.

Jurel Replaces Pant; India In Control On Day 1 vs West Indies

Team India opted to bring in Dhruv Jurel in place of Rishabh Pant for the opening Test of their home season. By the end of Day 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the hosts had gained the upper hand against the West Indies. Despite West Indies skipper Roston Chase winning the toss and choosing to bat first, his team struggled to build a substantial total.

Justin Greaves was the top scorer for the visitors with 32 runs, but the team was bowled out for just 162 in 44.1 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were the pick of the bowlers, claiming seven wickets between them, with Siraj taking four. In response, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul began cautiously, accelerating after a rain delay.

Jaiswal was dismissed for 36 by Jayden Seales, while B Sai Sudharsan fell to Chase for 7. However, KL Rahul’s unbeaten 53 helped India close the day just 41 runs behind. He will continue alongside Shubman Gill on Day 2.
