India’s opening batter and vice-captain, Shubman Gill, was dismissed for 29 off 19 balls during the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match against Bangladesh at Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday, September 24. Gill fell attempting to attack spinner Rishad Hossain, ending another explosive opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma.
Gill started cautiously after a tight opening from Tanzim Sakib and Nasum Ahmed but found his rhythm in the fourth over with back-to-back boundaries, showcasing his excellent form. As the innings progressed, Abhishek Sharma took charge, allowing Gill to play a more measured role.
India recovered from a shaky 17-0 in three overs to reach 72 at the end of the powerplay. Gill began the middle overs with a boundary off wrist-spinner Rishad Hossain, who was brought into the attack by stand-in captain Jaker Ali. The right-handed batter attempted an aggressive shot but ended up lofting the ball straight to the fielder at long-off.
Rishad Hossain breaks through in his opening over, ending the partnership.

Shubman Gill scored 29 off 19 balls, including two fours and a six, at a strike rate of 152.63, following his impressive performance against Pakistan in India’s opening Super 4 match.
In a bold move, Shivam Dube was sent in at No. 3 to take on the leg-spinner, but the plan did not succeed as the left-hander was holed out to the deep off Rishad Hossain’s next over after scoring just two runs, failing to make an impact in the crucial middle overs.
At the halfway mark, Team India are 96-2, with Abhishek Sharma cruising past fifty and skipper Suryakumar Yadav holding one end. The Men in Blue have kept an unchanged lineup for the match, with a win likely to boost their chances of reaching the final in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2025.
