Jake Fraser-McGurk produced the biggest hit of the Melbourne Derby as he sent Scott Boland into the upper deck at Marvel Stadium.
Winning the toss and asking the Melbourne Stars to bat first panned out well for the Melbourne Renegades as Tom Rogers trapped Dan Lawrence on the first ball of the third over. In an attempt to build up the momentum, Thomas Rogers (23) fell prey to Kane Richardson in the sixth over. While Glenn Maxwell and Beau Webster tried to rescue the ship, the struggle continued for the visitors. Hilton Cartwright chipped in with a 30-ball 38 as the Stars posted a feeble 137/8 in 20 overs.
After Aaron Finch departed for a duck in his final BBL appearance, Jake Fraser-McGurk joined hands with Shaun Marsh to add 68 runs for the second wicket. While Fraser-McGurk blended caution with aggression in his 31-ball 42, Marsh held one end and accumulated runs steadily. The southpaw reached his fifty in 42 balls even as wickets tumbled at the other end, presenting a six-wicket triumph to Renegades’ Legend Finch in his farewell match.
