The Delhi Capitals kept their hopes of reaching the IPL 2026 playoffs alive with a spectacular three wicket victory over the Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Monday.

Needing a massive 211 to win, the Delhi Capitals put up one of their best batting efforts this season. With the win Delhi took their points tally to 10 out of 12 games and climb up to seventh in the IPL 2026 points table.

Skipper Axar Patel was the star performer in the successful chase. The left-handed all-rounder found form finally and scored a quickfire 56 off only 30 deliveries with 8 boundaries and 2 maximums. It was his first half-century in his last 20 IPL innings.

Apart from Axar, David Miller played a significant role scoring a destructive 51 off 28 deliveries. Late on in the chase, Ashutosh Sharma scored a crucial 24 and Madhav Tiwari ended up on 18* to take the game closer to the home side.

Auqib Nabi Dar hit a six off Yash Thakur on the last ball of the 19th over to complete a memorable win for Delhi Capitals.

Axar Patel penalised for slow over rate

Despite the victory celebration Axar Patel was punished by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The IPL had officially confirmed on Tuesday morning that the Delhi Capitals were guilty of a slow over rate in their Match No. 55 of IPL 2026.

the IPL said in its statement on Tuesday morning:

"As this was his team’s first offense of the season under the relevant Law 2.22, of the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,"

With Delhi Capital's first offence this season for slow over-rate, Axar Patel had to pay a penalty of 12 lakh. Many captains this season have been fined already for slow over-rate such as Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.

The win kept Delhi alive in the race to the playoffs but they would still need a remarkable string of wins to make the knockout stage of the competition.
