Will Jacks has been on the sidelines for MI during the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League and the lack of action from the all-rounder has left a number of the Mumbai Indians fans puzzled. The England all-rounder is now understood to have taken a brief break due to an extremely hectic international schedule and is expected to return shortly.
MI have been at the receiving end of quite a few defeats at the start of the season, losing three out of their first four matches. Though they finally ended their opening game win drought by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders, they haven't looked like a settled outfit both with the bat and ball and Jacks, who was in blistering form prior to the tour of the Indian subcontinent could have brought in some balance to the team.
Reports have indicated that Jacks asked for an extension before flying over to India as he had continuously played cricket for England since December. He took part in four out of the five Ashes matches which were played in Australia. In addition to the Ashes he was part of England's ODI and T20I tour to Sri Lanka which was then followed by the T20 World Cup 2024.
He is understood to have taken a brief holiday to recover after an extremely busy season and enjoy time with his family. The all-rounder was recently photographed on a holiday in Paris with his fiancée, and that was another reason which further extended his travel to India. Jacks was an integral part of MI's squad in the previous season. He played 13 matches and recorded 233 runs in 131 deliveries with a strike rate of 135.46 and took 6 wickets.
Good news for MI as he is expected to join the team very soon. The reports indicated that he may land in India this week and could be available for the selection one of the upcoming fixtures against PBKS or GT.
His return could not come at a better time for the Mumbai Indians as they are still struggling with their best combination.
MI have looked fragile in both departments. The bowling of Bumrah hasn't been very fruitful this season as he has yet to take a wicket while Boult has been costly. Even their spinners haven't delivered on a consistent note.
With the bat, MI have struggled to make their starts count and convert them into winning totals. This is where Jack's presence could be felt as, in T20 World Cup 2026, he was instrumental in filling a similar role for England as he amassed 226 runs at a strike rate of 176.56 with the bat and took 9 wickets.
The all-round capabilities of Jacks will certainly add much needed balance to the squad especially in the middle order and in the spin department.
As the IPL season progresses, Mumbai Indians would hope that Jacks returns at the earliest and injects life into their campaign.
