Northamptonshire have confirmed the signing of Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for their 2026 season, reinforcing their bowling unit with one of the most experienced spinners in modern cricket.

Head coach Darren Lehmann highlighted the significance of Chahal’s presence, stating, “Yuzi is a magnificent asset to this squad. His record across his career speaks for itself, and he brings so much class and experience to the group.”

He further added :

“I loved working with him this year and am excited to go again in 2026. For young spinners in the group like Nirvan Ramesh and Stuart van der Merwe, having Yuzi around to guide them will be a huge plus for their game.”

Chahal has been a consistent performer for the club, claiming 31 wickets across two County Championship stints. His wealth of international experience, including 217 white-ball wickets for India over seven years, makes him a valuable addition.

Looking ahead to the new season, Chahal shared his enthusiasm: “I am so excited to carry on my journey with Northamptonshire. It feels like home to me, and I love playing cricket here. We have a great squad, and I am excited to push for more success next year.”

Conway’s Return to Strengthen the Bowling Attack

Northamptonshire also confirmed the return of Australian seamer Harry Conway, who will rejoin the squad for the start of the 2026 season. Conway made a strong impression earlier in the year, taking 20 wickets in just four Championship matches. The 33-year-old pacer is expected to be available for the first seven games in April and May, providing crucial depth and early-season momentum to the bowling lineup.

Sharing his excitement about returning to the club, Conway said, “I’m delighted to have re-signed back at Wantage Road for an extended period next season. I hope I can have a big impact on the changing room and contribute to winning games in the division.”A Promising Season Ahead for Northamptonshire

The dual signings of Chahal and Conway signal Northamptonshire’s intent to build a balanced and experienced squad for the upcoming County Championship. Chahal’s spin expertise and mentoring of young players will strengthen the team’s depth.

On the other hand, Conway’s pace and early-season availability will boost their bowling options. Both players’ familiarity with the club and their shared commitment to success underline Northamptonshire’s ambitions for 2026, as they aim for a competitive campaign in the division.
