The current world number 11, Dave Chisnall, has once again created more history for himself after winning his 800th Players Championship match.

Dave ‘Chizzy’ Chisnall has reached another milestone in his career after winning his 800th Players Championship match. Chisnall, who is regarded as one of the best players ever to not win a Major, has been an ever-present at Players Championships since his arrival into the PDC in 2011. Having reached the final at the Players Championship Finals in 2016, many expected this to be a springboard for the darts star from Merseyside to kick on and achieve Major success, but this hasn’t been the case so far.

Despite this, Chisnall has still carved out a sensational career to date, amassing a whopping £3,070,950 during his 14 years in darts’ premier organisation. ‘Chizzy’ has won a Pro Tour event in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as triumphs on the Euro Tour in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Full of potential, it feels as if we haven’t seen the ultimate glory of Chisnall just yet, and maybe sometime in the near future he can get over the line in a major event and finally win one of the big ones.

Chisnall also tied for fourth place today in terms of PC board wins, levelling with Michael van Gerwen on 141 wins. To be level with a player of the calibre of van Gerwen just goes to show the outright quality he has and bodes well for future success at these events.

What are Players Championships?

Players Championships, or ‘PCs’ as they are commonly referred to, are the behind-closed-doors events that every Tour Card holder is eligible to enter. However, when a Tour Card holder doesn’t want to enter or can’t make the event for whatever reason, their place is taken up by either a player on the Challenge Tour or Development Tour. There are 34 Players Championship events that take place over the course of the year, and the top 64 players in the Players Championship Order of Merit after the final event are invited to the Players Championship Finals.

This showpiece occasion, which includes all of the year’s top performers, showcases just how difficult it is to transition to the stage. Some players really struggle to adapt their game to the big stage, and it can be frustrating to see so many talented players not able to achieve what you know they can do.

Maybe off the back of this amazing milestone, Chisnall can transform his behind-closed-doors form to the stage and achieve a career-defining moment.
