'If I retired today, I know I've achieved everything': Luke Humphries all but completes darts after O2 triumph

Luke Humphries admits he could retire a happy man after winning the so-called triple crown sealing the Premier League Darts title on Thursday night defeating Luke Littler 11-8 in the final.

But for Humphries, it was very much a dream fulfilled as he all but completes darts as a result of claiming this title. Albeit despite that, he still has his sights firmly set on the final annals of his resume that remain not won including the UK Open.

“I have achieved everything I’ve ever dreamed of,” said Humphries.

“When I won my first major title at the World Grand Prix, I thought that was my dream fulfilled, and then a few months later I was World Champion.

“After I won the World Matchplay, this was the biggest title missing from my CV.

“If I retired today, I know I’ve achieved everything I’ve always wanted to, but there’s still the UK Open, European Championship and World Series Finals [to win], so I’m not going to give up yet!”

But it is not only about title success, it is about keeping the young talents at bay he admits. While not old by any stretch, Humphries is 30 compared to Littler for instance at 18 so he wants to make hay while the sunshines and dominate while he can. In reaching double figures, he joins a select club and continues to establish himself as the premier darting player on the planet.

“I hope this win drives me and makes me hungry to win more,” added the 30-year-old.

“You can’t win all these titles and not be hungry. You can’t become lazy. I’m going to be working hard to get better and I'll make some tweaks to my set-up which is going to help me improve.

“I’m still young so I’ve got the chance to change things and get better. I feel like I need to, because if I don’t, the younger generation are going to come through and take over.”
