'I’ll be honest, it does feel like another Premier League night' - Luke Littler cites similarities to the Premier League in Budapest after commanding win

In his first appearance at the Hungarian Darts Trophy, Luke Littler had no issues of advancing to the third round of the Hungarian Darts Trophy, knocking out Joe Cullen 6-1.

The World Champion was practically flawless on the outer ring in the early stages of the match, racing into a 4-0 lead. The former Masters champion had numerous opporunities to mick a leg or two, but could not find the doubles. He eventually got on the board to make it 4-1, but it was plain sailing for the 18-year-old, closing out the match with his second 84 checkout of the tie.

It was not the most spectacular or high-quality performance we have gotten used to from The Nuke, but a 94 average was more than enough to see off Cullen's 83. Littler also missed just two darts at double throughout, with The Rockstar failing to find the target nine times.

In his interview after the match, Littler admitted he was pleased to get the job done. He said: "We weren’t at our best, but I got the job done. First time being here, and we look forward to tomorrow."

This is Littler's first time in Budapest, and after playing in front of a crowd of over 6000 people, he even compared it to a Premier League event. When asked if he had the chance to explore the city, he said: "Not yet, but I’ll be honest, it does feel like another Premier League night with all the boxes up there and the big crowd. But yeah, I’m not saying anything just yet."

It will be a tricky round three matchup for Littler, who faces the German number one, Martin Schindler. The Wall has won three European titles in the last two years, including one in Graz, Austria, earlier this year. They met last year in a tightly fought tie in Minehead at the UK Open, where Littler just pipped Schindler 10-8. If something similar occurs in Budapest, then the fans are going to be very fortunate.

"Yeah, it definitely will be a good game," Littler said. "I’ve just got to be even better than I was tonight. But yeah, I look forward to playing in this brilliant arena tomorrow afternoon."
