Milestone for Stephen Bunting - Only Gerwyn Price has as many finals appearances in 2025
Steve Welsh/PDC

Stephen Bunting continues to impress in 2025. Last weekend he won the Swiss Darts Trophy by beating Luke Woodhouse 8-3 in the final. For Bunting it was already his second title this year on the European Tour, earlier he was also the best at the International Darts Open. The 40-year-old Englishman thus consolidates his fourth place in the world rankings and starts as one of the top favourites for the upcoming World Grand Prix (October 6-12).

'The Bullet' has nestled alongside Gerwyn Price at the top of the list of players with the most finishes this year. This makes him only the second player to reach the mark of 10 reached finals this year, a milestone that highlights his form and consistent performance. Bunting reached finals on both the Players Championship, the World Series of Darts and the European Tour. Only in the majors this year does he still await a final.

Price first to ten

Gerwyn Price was the first darter to reach the magic ten. The Welshman started the year strongly and showed why he still belongs to the absolute world top. But Bunting's rise is at least as impressive. Where Price has been a regular in finals for some time, Bunting finally manages to push through with great regularity this season. It is a sign that he now combines his talent with the necessary stability, something he sometimes lacked in recent years.

In third place in the rankings is the phenomenon Luke Littler. The young Englishman has already reached nine finals, and thus seems to be well on his way to joining the double digits soon. Unlike Price and Bunting, Littler also made some of those finals appearances at majors. More to the point, he already won three majors this year with the World Darts Championship, the World Matchplay and the UK Open.

Further down the leaderboard, we see Luke Humphries with six finishes. Although that number is slightly lower than the top three, "Cool Hand Luke" remains a constant factor at the top of the circuit. Jonny Clayton and Nathan Aspinall are both on five, as is Northern Irishman Josh Rock. Rock in particular is showing with his performances that he is starting to be more and more emphatically among the elite. Moreover, it seems to be only a matter of time before he wins a first major.

Van Veen leads the Dutch

Gian van Veen has already reached the final four times, confirming his status as one of the greatest Dutch talents at the moment. His performance gives hope for a bright future for Dutch darts, especially since established names such as Michael van Gerwen in 2025 have so far failed to show the same continuity. For Van Gerwen, it remained just two finals for now (final wins at both the World Series of Darts and the German Darts Grand Prix).

Behind them we find a broader group of players who all managed to reach the finals at least once. Eight darters stand at three, six players reached two finals and as many as 20 players got to compete for tournament wins once this year. That shows just how broad the top is in darts today.

With the season still in full swing, it promises to be an exciting battle for who ultimately manages to reach the most finals. Can Bunting maintain his form and surpass Price? Or will the prodigy Littler emerge as the absolute number one in the coming months? In any case, there is a lot to look forward to this fall.
