Peter Wright added a little color to a very mediocre summer at the Czech Darts Open in Prague. The two-time world champion struggled with his form, but did manage to beat Benjamin Pratnemer 6-2 on Saturday. The 83.24 average was anything but impressive, but 'Snakebite' breathed a sigh of relief and stressed afterwards that he is determined to fight his way back to the top.
The Scot is having a season full of disappointments. Whereas in the past he was often a regular in the final rounds of Euro Tour tournaments, this year he already fell four times in the second round. Moreover, Wright is still waiting for his first ProTour title in 2025. For a player who belonged to the absolute elite for years, that is a harsh reality as he slips further down but has won at the Czech Darts Open.
Afterwards, Wright especially pointed to the crowd's support as the deciding factor. "I’m trying to boost myself and play like the old Snakebite. But I’m coming back I have lost a bit of weight, and I will be better tomorrow," he promised.
Moreover, the Scot revealed that he was touched by the reception in Prague. “I got dropped off at the gates from security and I had to walk through many of the crowd and there were so many Snakebite fans. I really appreciate it and it’s nice to know there is still so many Snakebite fans around.“I will be back don’t you worry. Thanks to all the sponsors and these fans are what we need everywhere.”
For Wright, the Czech Darts Open feels extra special. Two years ago, he was the glorious winner in Prague after an 8-6 victory in the final against Dave Chisnall. Last year was the last time he managed to win a Euro Tour tournament. Then Wright was the best at the German Darts Championship.
