Raymond van Barneveld is synonymous with his legendary walk-on. This is partly due to his famous attendance song Eye of the Tiger by the band Survivor. Normally it is the fans in all halls who sing along loudly with this hit, but now 'Barney' himself once took the microphone to sing his own walk-on.
Van Barneveld is enjoying a trip in Florida, America, and was featured in a TikTok video of PDC caller Owen Binks singing along to his attendance number karaoke in the back of the car. Van Barneveld has flirted with retiring from the sport on several occasions. For example, he quit earlier in 2019, before finally making his comeback just under a year later because he still could not let go of the sport.
A few months ago, the 58-year-old announced that he wants to gradually distance himself from darts. "Of course I want to be there at the World Matchplay again this year. But starting next season it has to slow down. It's all getting a bit too much," the Dutchman said at the time.
"Maybe play less Pro Tours. The Euro Tours I'll keep doing as long as I'm in the top 16. But fair is fair: the schedule is pure madness - there is hardly any time left to rest. I'm turning and 40 and the love for the sport is undiminished. When you're tuning up, and you hear the crowd - that gives such an incredible sense of pride. The mind still wants to, but the body doesn't always follow. That's the difficult thing. I really struggle with that. It takes a tremendous amount of mental energy. I don't know how long I can keep this up," Van Barneveld said.
Does he aspire to a singing career after his darts retirement? If so, 'Barney' will have to take the necessary singing lessons. But in any case, one thing is certain: the fans enjoy his karaoke session.
