Chinese Taipei faced off against India in the group stage of the 2025 World Cup of Darts this Friday afternoon. Whilst perhaps not a standout match on paper, that drama that unfolded on stage has ensured it will be a game that lives long in the memory.
Having surged clear into a 3-0 lead, Chinese Taipei were aiming for a whitewash win in the fourth leg. That's when things started to go wrong though. After An-Sheng Lu had gone wide on double top, leaving his partner Pupo Teng-Lieh on double 19, India missed a chance at double 7 to keep themselves alive. This didn't seem to have been noticed by Teng-Lieh however, and on his return to the board, rather than aiming at double 19 for the match, he instead aimed for the treble 20, much to the confusion of everyone.
After switching to treble 19, referee Kirk Bevins called 'no score' leaving Teng-Lieh with a genuinely hilarious look of bewilderment on his face. Whilst he may have confused however, his teammate was fuming and the pair became embroiled in a war of words on stage, something made even worse moments later by the fact Nitin Kumar took the leg for India to make it 3-1.
All's well that end's well though as they say, and despite another comical miscount from Teng-Lieh before the end of the match, it was eventually Chinese Taipei that got over the line with a 4-2 win.
