'You're a different animal': Damon Heta shares sense of pride from donning 'Green and Gold' at World Cup of Darts

Damon Heta has shared his love of representing his country and what it truly means to him as he prepares for yet another title tilt alongside familiar ally Simon Whitlock for Australia at the World Cup of Darts.

It won't be easy for Heta as they since found out they will share a group with finalists last year in Austria albeit a different complexion without the older Rodriguez, instead it will be Rusty-Jake.

But for Australia, it has been very much an unchanged set-up for a long time and given their previous title win, it is one that works. Whitlock who is seen rightfully so as Australia's greatest darting export lost his Tour Card last year.

But while it is only Heta who flies the flag on tour now, Whitlock too no doubt will be up for the task. Heta spoke to DartsNews last time out in Leverkusen about becoming a different animal when he dons the Green and Gold and what it means to him.

As well as how it leads to two ends of the spectrum back home as they get into the spirit of the teams event.

"It's always massive. It's a massive tournament, it's different as well as you've got the doubles. It throws it out there, it's always a special moment," said Heta to DartsNews.

"Representing Australia there's always a lot of talk back home whether it's criticised or praised. You're always going to get it, there's no two ways about it."

"But when you put on the green and gold, you're a different person. You're a different animal. I think that's with anyone wearing their nation's colours, they want to turn up and want to do their best. Hopefully this year it all happens for us and we go to the next levels."
