20 celebrities you forgot appeared on 'Sex and the City'

Molly Shannon was in a few episodes of Sex and the City near the end of its run, playing a character named Lily Martin. What’s perhaps more interesting is that she’s taken SJP’s side in her feud with Kim Cattrall. 

Candice Bergen played Enid in Sex and the City, making an appearance in more than one episode. Her presence was minor enough to be forgotten but significant enough to warrant a cameo in the series’ reboot, And Just Like That…

Justin Theroux played Jared in Sex and the City, one of Carrie Bradshaw’s love interests. In the debate over who was the worst guy in Sex and the City, Theroux has stated he firmly believes it was Jared. 

In Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw dated some men with serious power. One such man was a politician played by Mad Men star John Slattery. 

Before becoming the king of Bravo, Andy Cohen was in two episodes of Sex and the City. In one episode, he played a shoe salesman; in another, for which he wasn’t credited, he played a guy at a bar. 

Jon Bon Jovi is such a rockstar that he hadn’t even heard of Sex and the City prior to appearing in an episode. The legendary musician, of course, played one of Carrie Bradshaw’s love interests. 

Matthew McConaughey was such a big star in the early 2000s that he got to play himself on an episode of Sex and the City. Granted, he played a ridiculous version of himself, but it’s still an impressive feat. 

Only icons got to play themselves on Sex and the City. Carrie Fisher made a cameo as herself in an episode, too. In the episode, she walked in on Carrie Bradshaw having sex with her personal assistant. 

Said personal assistant whom Carrie Fisher caught Carrie Bradshaw in bed with was played by Vince Vaughn. His character was named Keith, and he told Bradshaw he was Matt Damon’s agent. 

There’s no reason to feel bad about forgetting that Kat Dennings was in an episode of Sex and the City. It was long before her 2 Broke Girls days. Dennings played a young Jewish girl who sought Samantha Jones’ help to publicize her Bat Mitzvah. 

The Los Angeles episodes of Sex and the City provided some of the greatest television cameos of all time. In one episode, Samantha Jones met Hugh Hefner, and the girls got invited to a party at the Playboy Mansion. 

While at the top of her game as the star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar found time to appear in an episode of Sex and the City. Gellar was no one’s romantic interest but rather someone in Carrie Bradshaw’s professional circle whom she didn’t trust. 

No, Alanis Morissette didn’t play a musician in Sex and the City. She played a friend of one of Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriends. During a game of spin the bottle, Morissette’s character kissed Carrie. 

Okay, the Lucy Liu episode is actually quite memorable. In it, Samantha Jones is vying to become Liu’s agent, but after she uses the Charlie’s Angels star’s name in an effort to get a Birkin bag, the two part ways. 

Heidi Klum got to play herself in the series, too. In the episode where Carrie Bradshaw models in a fashion show, she got to do so alongside Heidi Klum. Things didn’t go so well for Carrie on the runway, and Klum hilariously stepped over her after she tripped and fell.  

Remember when it was so hot in New York City that the Sex and the City girls were practically dying, and Samantha Jones learned about an exclusive rooftop pool from a friend on the street? That friend was played by Geri Halliwell, better known as Ginger Spice. 

Jennifer Coolidge, unsurprisingly, played a hysterical character in Sex and the City. After a breakup, Coolidge’s character creates a line of hideous purses, all of which she shows off at a party the girls attend. 

Bradley Cooper appeared in an episode of Sex and the City as — you guessed it — one of Carrie Bradshaw’s love interests. Their romance was very, very short-lived, even by Carrie’s standards, and Cooper’s appearance was well before he was a big name, so it’s understandable if you forgot he was in the show. 

Just a couple of years before finding fame through Arrested Development, Tony Hale appeared in an episode of Sex and the City. He played one of the photographers taking pictures for Samantha Jones’ shoot. 

Tony Hale wasn’t the only Arrested Development star to make an appearance in Sex and the City. Will Arnett was on the show, too, acting as one of Miranda Hobbes’ love interests.
