20 stars you didn’t know are related to Old Hollywood icons

George Clooney has the vibe of an Old Hollywood star, so it makes sense that he’s related to one. His aunt was Rosemary Clooney, best known for her role in the famed holiday film White Christmas.

Kate Burton is an actress who you’ve definitely seen on screen, even if you didn’t know her name. But you’ll recognize her father - he was Richard Burton, one-time star of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, seven-time Oscar nominee, and two-time husband of Elizabeth Taylor. 

Jamie Lee Curtis is the daughter of two Old Hollywood actors: Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. Curtis appeared in films like Some Like it Hot and Spartacus while Leigh is best known for starring in Psycho. 

Jared Harris is perhaps best known in the U.S. for his stint on Mad Men. In the U.K., Jared is perhaps better known as the son of Richard Harris, the star of Camelot who also played Dumbledore in the first couple Harry Potter films. 

Of course, Dakota Johnson’s parents are the famous Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, but her lineage has Old Hollywood roots, too. Her maternal grandmother is Tippi Hedren, star of the famed horror film The Birds. 

Fans of The Vampire Diaries are familiar with Steven R. McQueen, the actor behind Jeremy Gilbert. Steven’s grandfather was Steve McQueen, legendary Oscar nominee who acted in films like The Thomas Crown Affair and The Magnificent Seven. 

Mariska Hargitay’s connection to Old Hollywood flies under the radar for a tragic reason. Her mother was Jayne Mansfield, the blonde bombshell who died in a car accident in her mid-30s. 

Sam Robards is another actor that you definitely recognize even if you can’t place him. He was in American Beauty, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and Gossip Girl, and his mother was the wildly famous Lauren Bacall. 

Oona Chaplin has a great resume of her own, with projects like Game of Thrones and Avatar: Fire and Ash among her credits. But she’s also got one great piece of lore that her peers don’t have: she’s the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin. 

Anjelica Huston is an icon in her own right. But it seems she had no other choice than to be an icon. Her father was Old Hollywood legend John Huston, the director responsible for titles such as The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The African Queen. 

Acting is in Scott Eastwood’s blood. The star of films like The Longest Ride and Regretting You, his father is four-time Oscar winner Clint Eastwood, a man whose greatest credits are too numerous to list. 

Zoë Kravitz’s father, of course, is Lenny Kravitz, but her grandmother is an icon, too. Zoë’s grandmother and Lenny’s mother was Roxie Roker, best known for her role on The Jeffersons. 

Isabella Rossellini is famous enough in her own right that some audiences don’t even question who her parents were. But she comes from veritable legends: influential filmmaker Roberto Rossellini and three-time Oscar winner Ingrid Bergman. 

Chris Pine’s parents are both actors, Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford, but his grandmother was an Old Hollywood star. She was Anne Gwynne, horror film extraordinaire best known for the film House of Frankenstein.   

Billie Lourd was surrounded by legends while she grew up. Her mother, though not an Old Hollywood icon, was Carrie Fisher, and her grandmother, a definite Old Hollywood icon, was Debbie Reynolds. 

Sean Astin has been acting since he was a kid, and it makes sense because his parents were Old Hollywood stars. His father was John Astin, the original Gomez Addams, and Patty Duke, Oscar winner known for Valley of the Dolls and The Miracle Worker. 

If you’re a Star Trek fan, you know Ethan Peck is the latest actor to take on the legendary role of Spock. And he’s plenty familiar with legends - his grandfather was Gregory Peck, the Oscar-winning actor from films like Roman Holiday and To Kill a Mockingbird. 

Tony Goldwyn comes from Old Hollywood stars, too. His parents were Samuel Goldwyn, producer of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Mystic Pizza, and Jennifer Howard, an actress who appeared in TV series like The Thin Man and The Twilight Zone. 

There aren’t many Old Hollywood stars still living, but a few of them are still active in the industry as they worked in Old Hollywood as children. Such stars include Ron Howard, the father of actor Bryce Dallas Howard. 

Riley Keough has some of the most famous lineage of all time. Her grandfather was Elvis Presley, her grandmother is Priscilla Presley, and her mother was Lisa Marie Presley. Doesn’t get much more iconic than that.
