Alison Brie thinks the 'Scream' movies need to start killing important characters

Fun fact: Horror movies used to actually kill off characters, important ones, too, and they stayed dead. If your main experience with the genre is the 'Scream' franchise, this might come as a shock. The rebooted 'Scream' seems oddly hesitant to take anyone out for good. One person who’s noticed? Alison Brie, star of the 'Scream' series.

Recently, while promoting 'Togetherness,' romantic and creative partners Alison Brie and Dave Franco chatted about 'Scream 7'. “Alison was famously in ‘Scream 4,’” Franco said. “With the new ‘Scream’ rules, even though she dies brutally, we could bring her back.” Brie added, “I hear tons of people are coming back.”

And that’s true. Skeet Ulrich has appeared in the last couple of Scream films, while David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley are all set to return in 'Scream 7.' What’s wild is that each of these characters died in previous installments.

Sure, it’s all gimmicky and fan service-y, but that’s not the real issue and it’s not what Alison Brie calls the “problem with the current era.” Simply put, “Too many people live. The ‘core four’ needs to die... We should be down to two of the ‘core four’ just by ‘Scream 7.’”

The new Scream films have been hesitant to kill off main characters. Even in 'Scream 5,' it was surprising how many key players survived. Do they want 'Scream 7' to actually have stakes, or just be a jellyfish-spined horror franchise? Clearly, Brie won’t be satisfied unless two of the new generation’s leads get the axe.
