It's a good time to be Beanie Feldstein.
The 28-year-old actress has been cast to play Fanny Brice in the forthcoming Broadway revival of Funny Girl, a role and play first defined by Barbra Streisand.
"The first time I played Fanny Brice was at my third birthday party, in a head-to-toe leopard print outfit my mom made for me," Feldstein, known for her supporting role in Lady Bird (2017) and leading role in Booksmart (2019), said in a statement (h/t Variety). "So, it’s safe to say that stepping into this iconic role, on Broadway and not in my family's backyard, is truly my lifelong dream come true. I am immensely grateful to be able to do so alongside such a remarkable creative team, and cannot wait for audiences to get back in theaters again!"
The original Funny Girl earned eight nominations at the 1964 Tony Awards, including a nod for Streisand. The Grammy- and Oscar-winning icon won best actress at the 41st Academy Awards for playing Fanny Brice in the 1968 film adaptation—Streisand's first acting credit.
Feldstein will grace our screens before fully immersing in Broadway, as she stars as Monica Lewinsky in FX's Impeachment: American Crime Story set to premiere Sept. 7.
