While at SXSW to promote Idiotka, Camila Mendes offered some new teasers about the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe.
During a conversation with Collider, she shared, "I've always dreamed of being in a project like this, and there's something that is so special about it because it doesn't have the same fanbase as Marvel or DC. It feels like it's a fresh superhero universe. It hasn't really been reinvented in a long time. It's exciting to create this world and in a less pressured environment, if that makes sense. Then also, I think the project itself is just really fun and funny and has layers and beautiful arcs and stories. I love Teela's character so much, and I relate to her in so many ways that I can't really talk about, but I think that's all I can say about that."
The movie is based on the popular Mattel toy line and stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. Mendes will portray Teela and described her co-star as "very funny, very talented, and very funny."
The role will require a physical transformation, which she told PEOPLE about: "I've always wanted to have a role that I could train for and be physical and just see what my body is capable of because the motivation to do something to this extent wasn't really there unless there was a character to do it for."
The rest of the cast includes Jared Leto, Idris Elba, Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, Alison Brie, Charlotte Riley, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Sam C. Wilson, Hafthor Bjornsson, Kojo Attah, Sasheer Zamata, Jon Xue Zhang, and Christian Vunipola.
"I'm pinching myself every day, and I'm just so excited to be surrounded by such an incredible cast of people that I've looked up to," the actress expressed to ScreenRant. "So yeah, I'm stoked."
Travis Knight's Masters of the Universe is currently in production and set to be released on June 5, 2026.
