Former MMA fighter Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos died in October by suicide.
According to a case report obtained by TMZ, Vasconcelos took his own life on Oct. 15. Police said a woman found Vasconcelos, who competed in UFC and Bellator, in the garage of his Illinois home the morning after. He was 38.
TMZ said police discovered vials of annabolic steroids in his home. A toxicology report only tracked caffeine in his system.
Vasconcelos went 10-6 with five knockouts and five submission victories during his MMA career. He last MMA fight took place on Oct. 31, 2021.
Last August, Vasconcelos withdrew from a jiu-jitsu tournament in Las Vegas because of a back injury.
"I believe in my jiu-jitsu and I believe that I could have gone further," he wrote. "But unfortunately the injury I had in my lower back one month ago came back, and when I finished my first fight, I could no longer walk and had to abandon the competition. One of the most frustrating situations that has ever happened to me in a competition."
The Brazilian fighter dated singer Demi Lovato in 2017. Lovato wrote, "Rest in peace, dear angel" in response to a social media post of a friend mourning Vasconcelos' passing in October.
His uncle, Walter, confirmed Vasconcelos' death in a Facebook post mourning his passing.
"You chased your dreams in the United States as an MMA fighter, Guilherme Bomba," he said in a message translated to English. "You became a champion in Brazil, but we never imagined that this journey would lead you to a point of no return without any of us by your side."
